The Maradona body transported Thursday to Casa Rosada, the Argentine federal government’s headquarters, as large numbers of citizens queued to bid a farewell look at the late star and Argentine soccer legend.

According to TYC and ESPN, Maradona’s body arrived in Casa Rosada around 5 am local time after holding a special night ceremony in the presence of his family and friends.

Some citizens managed to attend between six in the morning and four in the afternoon. Still, most of them arrived at the Plaza de Mayo, in front of Casa Rosada hours earlier, where they chanted loudly in tribute to the Argentine legend, who died on Wednesday at the age of 60.

About 30 minutes before the doors were opened again, crowds gathered amid tight security measures.

Specific problems were reported in the Plaza de Mayo as police tried to calm the crowd.

Small groups of 20 people were allowed to enter the government headquarters to see a farewell look, and some threw flowers, T-shirts, and some small gifts on the late’s coffin.
