Robert Lewandowski was named the best male player of the year and won the FIFA The Best Awards 2020. The Bayern Munich star edged out Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

A nice reward for Robert Lewandowski, who won the coveted FIFA The Best trophy. The Polish striker was the author of a stratospheric season, scoring 55 goals in 47 appearances as Bayern claimed a treble in the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB-Pokal.

The 32-year-old continued his superb form into the new season and on Wednesday scored his 250th Bundesliga goal to help Bayern claim an important victory.

Lewandowski played a prominent role in Bayern’s crowning of the historic treble (the Bundesliga, Cup and Champions League) last season, and he became only the second player in history to lead his team to a trio, including the Champions League title and topped the scorers’ list in the three tournaments in the same season.

Lucy Bronze has been named FIFA Women’s Player of the Year. Jurgen Klopp won the award for best male coach for the second year in a row after guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title, beating Bayern’s Hansi Flick, and Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Sarina Wiegman, the Netherlands women’s team coach, has been named the best women’s coach, edging out Emma Hayes of Chelsea and Jean-Luc Vasseur of Lyon.

Son Heung-min won the Puskas Award for his incredible individual goal for Tottenham against Burnley, with the South Korean star winning the vote ahead of Uruguayan pair Luis Suarez and Giorgian De Arrascaeta’s goals.
