Barcelona captain Lionel Messi expressed his happiness after smashing the legendary historical record, the Brazilian Pele.
Messi scored a goal in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Valladolid, Tuesday evening, in the 15th round of La Liga matches.
Messi became the top scorer with one club in the history of the game with 644 goals in 749 games, surpassing Pele’s record of 643 goals in 757 games.
Messi posted a message on his Facebook account, in which he said: “When I started playing football, I never thought that I would break any record, especially the one that I smashed today, which was registered in the name of Pele.”
Messi added: “I want to thank everyone who has helped me through all these years, my teammates, my family, my friends, and everyone who supports me every day.”
