Milan returned to the top of the Italian league standings after its precious 2-0 victory over Benevento on Sunday in the competition’s fifteenth stage.

Milan, who won their eleventh victory in the tournament this season and the third in a row, rose to 37 points, one point ahead of their closest stalkers, arch-rivals Inter, who temporarily topped the competition earlier. On the other hand, Benevento scored 18 points in 10th place in the championship standings.

Ivorian Frank Casey opened the scoring for Milan in the 15th minute with a penalty kick before the Lombardians were forced to play with 10 men after Sandro Tonale was sent off in the 33rd minute.

Despite the numerical shortfall, Portuguese Rafael Leao added the second goal for Milan in the 49th minute, while Benevento missed the opportunity to reduce the difference after Gianluca Caprari missed a penalty kick the 61st minute.

This victory gives a perfect morale boost to Milan players before the team meets with its guest Juventus next Wednesday at the top of the 16th stage matches.
