Olympique Lyonnais settled on its final decision regarding the future of its Dutch striker Memphis Depay, whose contract expires at the end of this season and is entitled to sign for any other club in January.
Depay was close to Barcelona last summer, but the Catalan team’s financial crisis caused the deal not to be completed.
According to the Spanish newspaper ” Mundo Deportivo “, Lyon was confused about Depay’s future, between selling him in January to avoid his departure for free in the summer or venturing and preserving it until the end of the season to compete for the league title.
Lyon is currently at the top of the French league table with 39 points, 3 points behind Paris Saint-Germain, and Depay is second in the scorers’ ranking with 10 goals, just two more than Kylian Mbappe.
However, Jacques-Michel Aulas, Lyon president, wrote a tweet on his Twitter account, which would give an impression of the club’s recent decision about Depay’s future.
“It would be good to leave Memphis in peace. He is a perfect captain after last year’s Champions League semi-finals. This year he could lead Lyon to go far,” Olas wrote. “Lyon will always be your home.”
