Barcelona escapes the trap of Elche and wins with two goals

Barcelona scored a precious victory away from home, with a score (2-0), during the match against Elche, Sunday evening, in the framework of the 20th round of La Liga.

Frenkie de Jong scored Barcelona’s goals in the match in the 39th minute and Ricky Puig in the 89th minute.

Barcelona raised its score to 37 points with this victory, jumping to third place in the La Liga table, while Elche’s balance stuck at 17 points in the penultimate position.

The first threat in the match came via an indirect free kick by Osman Dembele, a Barcelona player inside the Elche region, and reached his colleague Griezmann, who hit a weak header in the hands of Elche goalkeeper Badia in the 12th minute.

And the response came from Elche in the 20th minute, when Mojica sent a cross pass deep into the Barcelona penalty area, and Lucas Puyi hit a header, but it went over Ter Stegen’s goal.

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba almost scored the goal in the 29th minute, as a cross came to him on the edge of the penalty area, and he sent a ground shell that passed by the right post of the goalkeeper Badia.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong scored the first goal for his team in the 39th minute, as Martin Braithwaite crossed towards Griezmann to hit Gonzalo Verdu, Elche’s defender, to reach de Jong’s foot, who hit an empty net.

Gossan, the Elche player, tried to threaten Barcelona’s goal quickly, with a powerful shot, but Ter Stegen saved it twice in the 40th minute.

The first half ended with Barca advancing with a goal without a response.

At the start of the second half, Ter Stegen starred alone from Emiliano Rigoni, who cut the ball from Minguisa and kicked off the ball to the German goalkeeper’s right in the 56th minute.

And from a counterattack, the ball reached Dembele, who fired a powerful ball. Badia, Elche’s goalkeeper, saved it in the 57th minute and converted it into a corner.

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets received the yellow card in the 68th minute, after a violent intervention against Elche’s Bragan, to confirm his absence against Athletic Bilbao in the next round.

Elche goalkeeper Badia starred in blocking a shot from inside the area via substitute Trinkau in the 83rd minute to prevent him from doubling the score for Barca.

Goalkeeper Badia continued his brilliance and blocked again with a powerful header from Trinkau in the 86th minute.

Substitute Ricky Puig scored the second goal in the 89th minute, less than two minutes after entering the field, where he received a cross from Frenkie de Jong and hit a header to the right of goalkeeper Badia, to secure the victory and the three points of the Blaugrana.
