Benzema and Mendy save Real Madrid from the Getafe trap
Real Madrid has reduced their points gap from leaders Atletico Madrid to just five thanks to their 2-0 win over Getafe on Tuesday in a postponed match from the Spanish Football League’s first stage “La Liga”.
Real Madrid raised its tally to 46 points from 22 games in second place, five points behind Atletico, who top the table with 51 points from 20 games.
Barcelona is third with 43 points from 21 matches, and Seville is fourth with 42 points from 21 games.
At the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid waited until the 60th minute to open the scoring by French striker Karim Benzema, and just six minutes later, the other Frenchman, Ferland Mendy, added the second goal.
The royal club recorded its fourteenth victory this season, in exchange for four draws and four defeats.
