A video of the British Consul General in Chongqing, China, Stephen Ellison, was very popular on Saturday, after he rescued a 24-year-old girl after she fell into a river, in what Chinese activists considered a hero.
According to the British newspaper “The Guardian”, Stephen Ellison – 61 – was walking by a river in a nearby village when the girl slid from rocks into deep water.
Videos posted on social media and official media showed Stephen Ellison taking off his shoes and jumping in the water, fully clothed.
Ellison was visiting Chung Shan on Saturday when he heard shouts from a crowd gathered near the river, according to a statement published by the British Embassy in China on WeChat.
