The Camp Nou soon to be renamed? An FC Barcelona presidential candidate has expressed his desire to rename the stadium in honor of club star Lionel Messi.

Barcelona presidential candidate Emili Rousaud has vowed to hold a referendum on the club’s stadium name change in honor of star player Lionel Messi.

We will hold a referendum to change the name of the stadium to Camp Nou – Leo Messi, ” he told reporters.

FC Barcelona will elect a new president in January to replace Josep Maria Bartomeu, who resigned from his post last month.

Pressure on Bartomeu increased over the summer after Messi announced his desire to leave the club. The Argentina international criticized the president when he announced an exclusive interview with Goal that he would remain at Camp Nou for another season.

Emili Rousaud has pledged to honor the icon by naming the Camp Nou after Lionel Messi.

Although Messi has not indicated that he wants to stay at Barca beyond the end of the current campaign, Rousaud has vowed to honor the icon by naming Camp Nou after him.

Rousaud has also pledged to add more star quality to the Blaugrana squad if elected, promising to bring Neymar back from Paris Saint-Germain.

“We are going to sign two better players; one of them is Neymar. We are working to bring him back to Barcelona if he withdraws the lawsuit he brought against the club,” he said.

The entrepreneur hopes to bring former Barca stars into the organization to bring the club back and help recreate their glory days.
