Denmark players: How does the match resume and Eriksen between life and death?

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and striker Martin Braithwaite on Monday regretted putting the team in the position of choosing to resume the match between Denmark and Finland on Saturday in the European Championship “Euro 2020”, after the first playmaker Christian Eriksen suffered a heart attack and was close to death on the field before the medical team helped him.

Speaking to the media in Helsingor, north of Copenhagen, Schmeichel said: “We were put in a situation that I personally think we should not have faced. We had two options, either to return the next day (Sunday) at noon or to complete the match.”

And the Leicester City goalkeeper hoped that a high-ranking official had advised that the time was not right to take this decision, and he continued: We should have waited, perhaps for the next day to decide, what happened has happened, and I hope they learn from what happened.

As for Braithwaite, the Barcelona player, he indicated: The players wanted a third option, because we did not want to play. “The decision to resume the match was not our wish, it was one of the options we had and we were told we had to make a decision.”
