The Portuguese national team began its title defense campaign by defeating Hungary 3-0 during the match that brought them together on Tuesday in the first round of Group F of the European Nations Championship “Euro 2020”.
The Portuguese team advanced with a goal scored by Rafael Guerrero in the 84th minute, and Cristiano Ronaldo added the second and third goals in the 87th minute from a penalty kick, and the second from overtime for the match.
Ronaldo, captain of the Portuguese national team, became the first player to participate in five European Nations Championships, after he appeared for the first time with the team in 2004 and also participated in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 editions.
Ronaldo also became the best scorer in the tournament after raising his goal tally to 11 goals, as he was equal with French player Michel Platini, France’s top scorer, with nine goals before his two goals in this match.
The Portuguese team won its first three points in the current edition of the tournament, while the Hungarian team remained without credit.
