Antoine Greizmann has dismissed speculation about his future and insisted he intended to stay at Barcelona. These departure rumors come following Lionel Messi’s decision to stay at the Catalan club after a long standoff with the leaders.
However, the France international is adamant he is not going anywhere. “Is my future at Barça? Yes, I don’t know why people invent destinations to see if one day they will be right, ” he told French channel M6.
The 29-year-old striker suffered a disappointing first campaign with Barça following his arrival from Atletico Madrid in a € 120 million transfer last year.
He scored 15 goals in all competitions but struggled to earn a regular place in the squad, in the shadow of Messi and Suarez.
“I am very well there. I know I have the confidence of the club and the coach so I’m fine. It has been a very complicated season for all of us but now we are starting again, ”he added.
After being named Barcelona’s new manager, Koeman identified Griezmann as one of the many players he sees as the key to moving forward and underlined his desire to play Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong in their preferred positions.
The 29-year-old is hoping to do rather better next season as Barcelona enter a new era under Ronald Koeman.
Koeman’s side will begin their LaLiga campaign on September 26 when they host Villarreal.
