Germany flexes its muscles against Latvia before the Euro

The German national team crushed its Latvian guest 7-1, on Monday, in an international friendly match in preparation for the European Football Championship 2020.

The German team ended the first half with a 5-0 lead, as Robin Goossens scored the first goal in the 19th minute, before Ilkay Gandogan added the second goal in the 21st minute, then Thomas Muller strengthened his team’s lead with the third goal in the 27th minute.

In the 39th minute, Latvia’s Roberts Ozels scored Germany’s fourth goal by an own goal, before Serge Gnabry finished the first half goals with the fifth goal in the last minute of the original time of the first half.

In the 50th minute, Timo Werner scored the sixth goal for the German team, before Alexis Savelevs scored the only goal for Latvia in the 75th minute, then Leroy Sani concluded the goal celebration with the seventh goal in the 76th minute.

The match witnessed Joachim Loew and the German national team players honoring veteran international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer on the occasion of his 100th match with the German national team.

Loew, the coach of the German national team, and the rest of the German national team players stood in an honorary corridor in honor of Neuer, with the applause of about a thousand fans who attended the match, amid strict precautionary measures as a result of the continuing crisis of the Corona pandemic.

Neuer, 35, became the first goalkeeper in the history of the German national team to participate in 100 international matches.

Neuer made his international debut in June 2009 during the match in which the German national team beat the UAE 7-2.

The German national team will start its European Nations Championship against France on the 15th of this month in Group F, which also includes Portugal and Hungary.
