Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has announced its intention to attract the best minds in the world to work for his company, for almost five times the salary.

The job posting on the WeChat official account states, “If you are the best, and want to push the boundaries of science, we want you,” huawei is looking for people who have made extraordinary achievements in mathematics, computer science, physics, materials science, chips, intelligent manufacturing or chemistry, who are eager to become pioneers in their field.

According to the publication, the telecom equipment giant is willing to pay these successful candidates at least five times more than its competitors, and provide them with world-class projects that are full of challenges, and mentor by renowned international experts .

Huawei previously offered annual salaries of up to $ 300,000 to the best Chinese graduates.

The Chinese company spends more than 10% of its turnover each year on research and development over the last decade.

Last year, more than 80,000 Huawei employees accounted for 45% of the total R & D workforce. The company spent a total of 101.5 billion yuan ($ 14 billion) on research and development, representing 14.1 percent of the company’s total revenue.

Battle for the best minds

The demand for talent to develop technology has increased, particularly in the context of growing tensions between the United States and China, who are competing for supremacy in advanced technologies considered to hold the keys to the economy in the future.

Since the beginning of the Sino-US trade war in 2018, President Xi Jinping has reiterated in public speeches that China should play a greater role in technological research and development.

In the United States, there are also warning signals, fearing that America will lag behind China in technology.

Last week, Huawei informed local authorities in Shanghai of its intention to invest 10 billion yuan in a new research and development facility with a capacity of 30 to 40,000 employees, which has 36 joint innovation centers and 14 research and development institutes around the world.

For the “Best Minds” campaign, the company said priority would be given to candidates whose research resulted in “tangible and effective” results, documents or patents, as well as winners of a major international competition in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The company previously announced that it is seeking to recruit 20 to 30 of the best talent from around the world this year, with the aim of strengthening its “combat capabilities”, according to a late July e-mail, signed by the founder and chief from the company’s management, Ren Zhengfei, who said Huawei must “win the technological and commercial battles of the future”.
