The French national football team reserved its seat in the final rounds of the second edition of the European Nations League championship by its precious 1-0 victory over its Portuguese host today, Saturday, in the fifth and penultimate round of the third group matches in the first division tournament, which today also witnessed the victory of the Swedish team over its Croatian counterpart 2-1.

The French national team, the world titleholder, prevented its Portuguese counterpart from continuing the journey of defending its title, which it won last year in the first edition of the tournament, where it beat it 1-0 to raise its tally to 13 points at the top of the group and freeze Portugal at ten points in second place.

Regardless of the outcome of the two matches in the last round, the Portuguese team is a guest over its Croatian counterpart. France plays with Sweden; the French team included the qualification card from this group to the final rounds of the tournament, held in October 2021, while the Croatian team secured second place and stayed in the first section of the season Next.

At the “Al-Nour” stadium in Lisbon, the first half between the Portuguese and French teams ended in a goalless draw despite the many opportunities this half witnessed, with a clear preference for the French team, the world titleholder.

In the second half, the French national team translated its superiority into a clean goal scored by Ngolo Kante in the 53rd minute to dash the Portuguese team’s hopes of defending its title, noting that the Portuguese team also holds the European Nations Cup (Euro 2016) in France, which it beat the French national team in the final of the tournament.

And the famous Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo failed again to score the French national team during today’s match, to freeze his international goals with his country at 102 goals.

And at the “Friends Arena” in Solna, Sweden, the Swedish national team ended the first half with two clean goals scored by Diane Kulusevski and Marcus Danielson in the 36th and second minutes stoppage time for this half.

In the second half, Danielson himself scored a face-saving goal for the guests by mistake in his own goal in the 81st minute.

The Swedish national team won its first three points in the group. Still, it remained in the last fourth place on goal difference only behind Croatia, knowing that they tied 3-3 in the aggregate of the two confrontation matches between them so that the result of each of them in the last round of group matches next Tuesday is decisive for the survival of either of them. In the first division league or relegation to the second division league, where the conflict between them was limited to the third and fourth places before the current round results.
