Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Justin Gaethje on Saturday (October 24) in a UFC 254 fight on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. The pair fought behind closed doors for the lightweight title in MMA’s most anticipated event of the year.

Khabib finished his challenger in a very intense fight that ended in tears. An incredible performance that allowed him to beat the American in the first minute of the second round.

The 32-year-old Dagestan was given the favorite of this fight of the UFC (the most important professional league of MMA) against the American. Still, several commentators nevertheless felt that the violent Gaethje for whom the challenge should not be underestimated. Was to become the first man to beat Khabib.

At the start of 2020, the coronavirus upset the UFC’s fights, the world champion Khabib was not to face the American Gaethje for the title of the lightweight champion but rather Tony Ferguson. Indeed, the fight that was to be held in May did not occur because of the restrictions linked to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje totally unexpectedly defeated Tony Ferguson, temporarily securing the UFC championship belt – which he tossed to the ground and refused to wear in front of the cameras claiming to want “a real one.” By beating Ferguson, American Gaethje received his ticket to face Nurmagomedov.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is undoubtedly the champion and the most famous fighter of the UFC in his category, especially because he has been undefeated since his debut (28-0), but since the death of his father, who was his trainer and his idol, doubts about his ability to win had started to mount.

But his opponent Justin Gaethje also has a very similar profile (22-2) in terms of weight, age, height, and statistics, which gave him every chance to snatch victory. He made no secret of his intention to beat Khabib and use all possible means to achieve his goal, making him a dangerous opponent.
