Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman announced, Monday, that Lionel Messi has been excluded from the team’s list to face Dynamo Kiev, Ukraine, scheduled for Tuesday in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage matches.
The stress on Messi’s performance during the match that ended in Barcelona’s defeat by Atletico Madrid 0-1 on Saturday in the Spanish League competitions, however, Koeman’s decision to exclude the captain and midfielder Frenkie de Jong from the Dynamo Kiev match was a huge surprise.
“We decided not to include Messi and de Young,” said Coman. We are doing well in the Champions League, and they need a rest.
De Jong was expected to participate in the defense center due to Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, and Ronald Araujo.
