Lionel Messi wins his record sixth Golden Ball award

Argentina’s Lionel Messi, Barcelona captain, and the historic striker have crowned the sixth Golden Ball of his career, presented by France Football magazine for the best player of the year.

Messi set the record for the number of gold ball wins and broke the partnership with rival Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who has five gold balls and finished third place this season. At the same time, the Dutchman Virgil van Dijk came in second place, and Senegalese Sadio Mane was fourth.

The award was presented by Croatian Luka Modric, a Real Madrid star, who won the award last season.

Messi led his team to the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League semi-finals, as well as the “Golden Shoe” award for the top scorer in Europe, and “Pichichi” for the top scorer in La Liga, and the top scorer in the Champions League.

Messi has already been crowned in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015.

The winger of Manchester City is in ninth place, and the Algerian Riyad Mahrez is in 10th place.
