Liverpool was very close to consolidating its defense line with a deal from the French League before it was threatened with failure, today, Sunday.
The French “Radio Monte Carlo” network reported that the Croatian Duje Ćaleta-Car, a Marseille defender, arrived at Marseille airport with his girlfriend this evening in order to travel by private plane to finish his transfer procedures to Liverpool.
However, although the two clubs reached a financial agreement on the deal, the Croatian player did not board the plane, according to a source close to him.
Marseille officials stopped the deal abruptly, fearing that Ćaleta-Car would not be replaced with another defender, hours before the winter transfers closed.
The French Network correspondent added that the deal is now threatened with failure, pending the outcome of the coming hours.
