Irish mixed martial arts (MMA) star Conor McGregor will once again return to the octagon on January 23, in a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fight against American Dustin Poirier, a- he announced Thursday.
“I am very grateful to be just about to come back and be able to do what I love again,” McGregor told media, who said the fight is expected to take place in Abu Dhabi.
“I look forward to the new challenge that Dustin will bring me since our first meeting,” added the 32-year-old fighter, who beat Poirier by first-round knockout in 2014.
The Irishman announced his third retirement in June after his last game in January and his victory over Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds. In September, McGregor announced negotiations with Filipino star Manny Pacquiao, world boxing champion in eight weight categories, for a fight in December or January 2021 in the Middle East, but no formalization followed.
