NBA boss Adam Silver told franchise owners on Friday that he was aiming to resume the season on July 31, several media reports said.
“NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and the bureau of the League have informed the Board of Directors that July 31 is the target date for the resumption of the season,” Shams Charania of The Athletic site said via Tweeter. , citing anonymous sources in the League.
If no decision was made at this meeting, ESPN reports that “most” of the club bosses expect Silver to announce next week their plan to resume the season suspended from March 11.
The Athletic and ESPN have also revealed the results of a survey carried out in recent days, by the NBA, among general managers of the 30 franchises, on the modalities of resumption of the championship.
It appears, among other things, that a small majority (53%, 16 out of 30) would like the championship to resume as soon as the play-offs, with 16 qualifiers determined by the classification on the evening of March 11.
This proposal won more votes than the other three combined, namely to finish the regular season and organize a qualifying round for the play-offs (27%), to resume directly with the play-offs with a qualifying round or a group phase on the model of a soccer world cup (17%), or else finish the regular season, then progress in play-offs (3%).
