Real Madrid wasted two valuable points in their struggle to compete for the top of the Spanish Football League after falling in a 1-1 draw with host Eleci on Wednesday in the 16th round of the League.
Real Madrid (the defending champion) remained in second place with 33 points, two points behind its arch-rival Atletico Madrid (the leaders), who are alone at the top of the League and still have two postponed matches.
Earlier, Atletico defeated Getafe with an unanswered goal scored by Uruguayan star Luis Suarez, who raised his score to 8 goals with Atletico, to occupy second place on the scorers’ list and beat one goal over the top scorer of his former team Barcelona this season, Lionel Messi.
Brilliant header from Luis Suarez. That's his 8th goal this season 🔥

In contrast, Elche scored 16 points in 15th place.
Real Madrid scored through its Croatian star Luka Modric in the 20th minute, but Fidel Chavez scored the equalizing goal for Elche in the 52nd minute with a penalty kick.
With that result, Ilici halted Real Madrid’s awakening in the competition after the royal team achieved 5 consecutive victories in the championship, thus receiving a surprise blow in its last match in the Spanish League in 2020.
