Qatar on Monday confirmed its desire to host the 2032 Summer Olympics, joining a group of countries interested in organizing this ancient sporting event, knowing that the wealthy emirate is preparing to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

India and Queensland in Australia and China’s Shanghai want to submit applications for the Olympic Games in 2032, in addition to a possible joint file between the capitals of the South and North Koreans, Seoul and Pyongyang.

The 2021 version will be held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, after it was postponed for a year due to the new Coronavirus, with 2024 and 2028 being in Paris and Los Angeles.

Under the changes introduced in 2014, interested countries are applying to join a non-binding “dialogue” for the candidacy, which Qatar confirmed to AFP with a message to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.

“Today’s announcement marks the beginning of a meaningful dialogue with the commission investigating the host countries of the International Olympic Committee to show our interest more and to determine how the Olympic Games can support long-term development goals,” Qatar Olympic Committee Chairman Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani said in a statement received by AFP. Term for Qatar. ”

He added in a second tweet, “Five pillars on which Qatar’s desire to host one of the forthcoming versions of the Olympic and Paralympic Games starts from 2032, which is the sports infrastructure, civilization renaissance, strong experience and prestige in the world peace community and the aspiration for a more prosperous future.”

Qatar unsuccessfully attempted to host the 2016 and 2020 games and proposed to organize it in October without first confirming it with the International Olympic Committee.

While the Tokyo session was postponed to 2021, the high temperatures in the Japanese capital prompted the organizers to reschedule the competitions dates to start in the morning.

Temperatures may be an obstacle for Qatar, where summer temperatures reach about 50 ° C. The World Cup soccer tournament, which has been marred by accusations of corruption and ill-treatment of workers, which was denied by Doha, will be held in November and December 2022 instead of summer due to hot weather.

“Qatar has earned its reputation as a world-class destination for major sporting events. This track record and rich experience (…) along with our desire to use sport to promote peace and cultural exchange, will form the basis of dialogue with the committee,” Sheikh Jou’an, brother of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said. “.

Qatar recently announced its desire to host the 2027 Asian Football Cup for the third time, and the 2030 Asian Games for the second time after hosting it for the first time in 2006.

In the next stage, Qatar will host the AFC Champions League through the semi-final stage, from September 14 to October 3, the Club World Cup in December 2020, and the Arab Cup in November and December 2021.

It is noteworthy that Qatar has been subjected to a diplomatic and economic boycott by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt since June 2017, when these countries accused them of supporting extremist organizations, which was denied by the gas-rich emirate.

And last Friday, the German President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach said in an interview, “We are pleased with the great interest in the 2032 Summer Olympic Games 12 years before its launch.”

“We have launched a dialogue between interested National Olympic Committees and a special committee at the International Olympic Committee. Of course, we welcome Qatar to join this dialogue,” he said, speaking to Qatar’s BN Sport.

And if Qatar succeeds in winning, it will be the first time that the sporting event has been held in the Middle East, as is the case for the 2022 World Cup.
