Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos achieved a record during the 3-1 victory over Atalanta in the second leg of the Champions League final, in his stronghold of Alfredo Di Stefano.
Ramos scored Real Madrid’s second goal with a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
According to the “ Squaka“ statistics network, this goal holds No. 15 for Ramos in the Champions League, beating legends such as Zinedine Zidane, Don Ronaldo, Adriano and Miroslav Klose (14 goals each).
“No one can be judged by their age, only the performance on the field should be evaluated,” Ramos said in remarks carried by Marca newspaper.
He added, “Our goal in the match was to qualify, we achieved a good result, we had the ambition and the desire to win and control the performance. We had several opportunities to score goals and we succeeded in exploiting them. We still have a long season ahead of us.”
About changing the way of playing, he commented, “It depends on the opponent’s style. We did not know how they would pressure, but soon we realized and controlled the game, and things went well.”
He continued, “Paying Panenka in penalty kicks is a usual method for me, but it was not the most appropriate option today, although we were ahead with a goal. I dedicated this goal to my wife because her birthday is tomorrow.”
About Vinicius’ performance, he explained, “It is sad that after doing difficult things he does not score a goal today, I would have been happy if Vinicius scored the goal before the penalty kick, as he played a great match and I told him that as soon as he got out of the bench.”
He completed, “The contract renewal? I cannot talk about anything, when anything new happens, I will be the first to speak.”
