Bad news for Real Madrid fans. Brazilian Eder Militao has tested positive for coronavirus, the Spanish club announced in a statement on Monday.

Real Madrid defender Éder Militao will miss his side’s Champions League clash against Achraf Hakimi’s Inter Milan on Tuesday after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Spanish club confirmed the 22-year-old Brazilian’s test results on Monday, just a day before hosting the Italian side.

“The club would like to confirm once again that everyone except Éder Militão tested negative in the antigen tests carried out that same morning,” read a statement from Real Madrid.

Militao, who was part of the Real Madrid squad that beat SD Huesca 4-1 on Saturday in La Liga, will undergo a period of self-isolation as stipulated by Spanish health guidelines.

Militao’s absence worsens Real Madrid’s situation ahead of Tuesday’s game. Indeed, Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola, and Nacho Fernandez are also being sidelined due to injury.

Madrid is rooted at the bottom of Group B with one point in two games, three points behind group leaders Shakhtar Donetsk who face Borussia Mönchengladbach.
