TCR Europe 2020: Moroccan driver Mehdi Bennani crowned champion

Moroccan driver Mehdi Bennani proclaimed himself TCR Europe 2020 champion by finishing second in Race 2 of the stage, which took place this weekend at the Jarama circuit, a Formula 1 race track located in San Sebastián de Los Reyes north of Madrid.

In total, the Moroccan driver (Audi RS 3 LMS TCR – Comtoyou Racing) secured the title with 285 points, ahead of Frenchman John Filippi, who finished second in the world championship with 257.

Belgian Nicolas Baert completed the world championship podium with 244 points.

In statements at the end of this race, Mehdi Bennani said he was “very happy” to win this title after a “very difficult year during which we had bad luck in some races but also luck in others ”, while congratulating his team for the excellent work accomplished.

“I am proud to be the champion of TCR Europe, especially with the difficulties imposed by the new coronavirus with regard to travel and tests,” said the Moroccan champion.
