” After giving it a lot of thought, I decided not to play in the US Open this year. The situation in the world is really complicated, the cases of Covid-19 are increasing and it looks like we haven’t yet figured out how to control it (…) It’s a decision I wish I had never had to make but this time I have to follow my heart and I prefer not to travel anymore for the moment. ”
The Spaniard thanks the organizers of the American tournament and others who are trying to “save the season” with the organization of various tournaments under difficult conditions but admits that it makes the schedule a little crazy.
“Rafa” had already started his preparation on clay for several weeks so little doubt remained about his participation in the American tour … But no reassuring clue concerning the season on earth precisely: we learned on Tuesday l cancellation of the Madrid tournament which was to take place just before Roland-Garros.

After many thoughts I have decided not to play this year’s US Open. The situation is very complicated worldwide, the COVID-19 cases are increasing, it looks like we still don’t have control of it. We have just seen the announcement of Madrid not being played this year. All my respects to the USTA, the US Open organisers and the ATP for trying to put the event together for the players and the fans around the world through TV.
