Stuttgart, Germany, announced that striker Silas Wamangituka revealed to his club his real name and date of birth differently from what is known, and confirmed that this change occurred years ago through his former business agent, and the German Federation opened an investigation into the incident, indicating the possibility of accusing the player of forgery.

Wamangituka told the German club that he had been living in fear since leaving the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the age of 17, to play for the submerged French club Ales.

“It was a difficult step for me to reveal my story,” the attacker said in a statement. “Only with the support of my new advisor, did I have the courage to do so.”

He added that his real name is Silas Katumba Mvumba, and his date of birth dates back to a later year, which is 1999, instead of 1998, which makes his age now 22 years old.

He confirmed that his personal data had been changed by a business agent in Belgium who controlled the management of his bank account and seized his passport.

Stuttgart said it fully supported the player, and recognized the name of the player’s agent in question.

The club’s sporting director, Thomas Hitzlsberger, added: “We took all measures immediately, and we informed all the relevant authorities after we informed Silas. We are making this case public to make it clear that we are working with transparency.”

After the announcement in Stuttgart, the German Football Association, today, Tuesday, opened an investigation into the incident, indicating that the player may be accused of fraud.

“The rival club in (Bundesliga) has informed the committee of what happened and we will review the matter regarding possible misconduct by the player under sports law,” said Anton Nascheriner, head of the German Football Association’s regulations committee.

Wamangituka moved to Stuttgart in 2019, and scored 11 goals last season, to top the list of top scorers for his club.
